I refuse to work for nothing

Published by kdarrell under selling, sewing Edit This

Yesterday I had a very interesting conversation with one of the mothers down at the bus stop.  She asked me for a price of what I would charge her to make her a homemade quilt.  Well I gave her a price and she informed me that it was way to steep.   Honestly for all the work that goes into a homemade quilt I think my prices are quite reasonable.

So I told her to go find a homemade quilt cheaper than that.  She informed me that she seen one that was at Zellers for a lot less than I quoted her.  So I told her to go buy it.  Honestly if you don’t want to pay my prices that’s fine, but don’t insult me by telling me I’m charging too much.  My time is most certainly worth something.

So I have come to a decision.  Even if she decides that she does want the quilt at that price, I’m not going to make it.  The reason for this is because I think it would be a never ending problem with her over everything.  If she’s going to be that hard to get along with about the price I would hate to hear her opinions on the quality.

Recycled clothing

Published by kdarrell under general, sewing Edit This

My husband is getting pretty annoyed with me and honestly I can’t blame him.  I refuse to throw out any clothing.  For some reason I have it in my head that I can save all the kids article of clothing and cut them up and make some recycled quilts out of them.

I got this idea about 8 years ago when a friend of mine talked me into making recycled jean quilts.  At first I was pretty good about cutting up the jeans and making the quilts.  I had made one for each of the children and two for our pop up camper trailer.  But I kind of got bored with that (yeah, I do that a lot Wink) so I stopped making them, but I didn’t stop collecting them.

Now I have TWO closets full of jeans and old children’s clothing that I haven’t done anything with.  So I’m thinking when the kids go back to school I have to get back at my recycled quilts.  Right now I don’t have any pictures of the quilts that I have made, but when I get serious with it again, I’ll be sure to post the pictures.

So…could you all please tell my husband to be patient with me.  I will get to it.  I promise.Smile

Making curtains

Published by kdarrell under crafts, sewing Edit This

Oh my!  I was in the store the other night shopping for back to school clothes for the children and just happened (honest, just walking by) upon the crafting section.  Well you can imagine my delight when I seen their amazing sale on fabric.  Most of the fabrics that were there were being offered at a 50% discount.  And since all my windows need new curtains, I decided to purchase a pile of fabric.

My husband who was with me on this trip was just shaking his head at all my purchases.  I know what he was thinking.  Why in the world am I starting another project when I’ve got so many on the go right now.  Well I know that’s what was running through his head even if he didn’t say it.

So  sometime next week I will be starting on making curtains.  I can’t wait to see how this project turns out (if it turns out).
