Started my Christmas shopping

Published by kdarrell under crafts, kids Edit This

Well I have to say that I’m pretty impressed with myself today.  Normally when it comes to Christmas I am a last minute shopper.  Honestly guys I’m one of the ones that you see running into the malls on December 24 and I normally don’t even start shopping until December 1st.  Until this year!

We just got a brand new store in our area.  This store is a discount store and has tons and tons of stuff in it for very cheap prices.  So this morning I decided to take a look around to see what they have.  They have a ton of craft and beading supplies that would be very nice for my daughter so I just had to pick some of these items up.

All the craft supplies that I purchased today will go away for my daughter for Christmas.  It is because of these purchases that I can say that I have officially started shopping for the Christmas season.

Knitted afghan part 2

Published by kdarrell under kids, knitting Edit This

After I finished my post yesterday I got to thinking that you guys may want to see some pictures of my work in progress. And when I say work in progress, I mean SLOW work in progress. So far I have been working on this particular afghan for about 10 months now. There are two main reasons why this project is taking me so long to make. The first reason is that every square block takes an entire day of knitting if I knit all day and the second reason is because I have a really bad habit of getting bored and starting on a different project.

The good news is that this afghan is for my daughter and not part of my selling stock so it really doesn’t have to be done at any set schedule. I know my daughter would like me to move faster on it than I have, but I just can’t seem to move any faster with this project. But enough whining about my slowness, here are the pictures. I hope you like what you see and hopefully I’ll be able to give you all an update on the piece before another 10 months pass.

Crafting presents

Published by kdarrell under kids Edit This

Today is my youngest son’s 8th birthday and yesterday was my daughter’s 10th. We got them each a DS for their birthday’s but their aunts got them crafting supplies. The kids’ haven’t seen their gifts yet from the aunts, but I’m sure they are going to be delighted.

They both enjoy doing a wide variety of art work so buying them pens, pencils, crayons and paper is one of the best gifts that anyone can buy them. We will be headed out to my father in laws quite soon for a party and presents. the kid’s don’t know about the party so this will be a surprise for them as well.

So have a great day everyone and I will be back to more crafting posts tomorrow.

Teaching the kiddies

Published by kdarrell under crafts, hobbies, kids Edit This

Because I am such an avid crafter myself, one of my dreams in life is for my daughter to follow in my footsteps. I would love to show her how to create things and then sit back and watch as she finds her own unique way. Unfortunately, I don’t think that is going to happen. On Sunday she will be turning 10 and has shown no interest in the crafting field. The only craft that she likes to do is scrapbooking. I have tried to teach her other crafts, but she doesn’t seem to have the patience for it. Maybe when she gets a little older, I will try again.

My youngest son, who will soon be 8, has shown a lot of interest in crafting. He likes to knit, rug hook and work with beads. Yes, I know he’s a little boy, but he enjoys doing it. And he’s actually pretty good at it too. So maybe I did get my “little crafter”. Just not the one I expected.
